You can add the contents of a project made with earlier version of Premiere Pro on either Mac OS or Windows. In addition, on Windows, you can import a project made with earlier versions of Premiere Pro. The imported project’s clips and sequences are added to the Project panel in a bin named after the imported project. The bin hierarchy of the imported project is maintained within its new bin. Use caution when importing a project into another project with a different time base or audio sample rate, because these differences may affect edit positioning and audio quality.

Importing a project into another project is the only way to transfer its complete sequence and clip information.

Also, you can open projects made with Premiere Pro for Windows, including any contents that may have been imported from earlier versions, in Premiere Pro for Mac OS.

Note:

Inearlier versions of Adobe Premiere, storyboards were stored in files independentof project files. Premiere Pro contains all storyboard featureswithin the Project panel. On Windows, you can import storyboardfiles created in earlier versions by choosing File >Import.

Import selected sequences fromPremiere Pro projects

You can import one or more sequences of your choosing from another Premiere Pro project.

Note:

To make the assets for a sequence easy to import with the sequence, first consolidate the project that contains the sequence. Collect the files and copy them to a new location with the Project Manager.

Import a Premiere Elements project(Windows only)

Premiere Pro converts the Premiere Elements project fileto a Premiere Pro project file.

You can import After Effects compositions like any other supported file type by using the File > Import command. You can export a Premiere Pro project file from After Effects and open it for editing in Premiere Pro. You can also copy and paste layers and assets between Premiere Pro and After Effects.

You can create or import After Effects compositions by using Adobe Dynamic Link. You can also select clips in a Premiere Pro timeline and replace them with an After Effects composition via Adobe Dynamic Link. Adobe Dynamic Link allows changes made to a file in either application to appear in both, instantaneously, without a need for rendering.

Note:

To move an After Effects project from another computer to the one on which you are running Premiere Pro, make sure to move all the files associated with the After Effects project.

• Select File > Import, and browse tothe desired AEP file.

• Select File > Adobe Dynamic Link > ImportAfter Effects Composition.

If the After Effects project contains more than onecomposition, the Import After Effects Composition dialog opens.

Select one or more compositions. Shift-click to selectcontiguous compositions. Ctrl-click (Windows), or Command-click(Mac OS) to select non-contiguous clips.

Premiere Pro imports the selected After Effects compositionsand places them into the Project panel. If you selected more thanone composition. Premiere Pro creates a bin with the name of theAEP file, and places the compositions within that bin.

You can import project files in the EDL fileformat.

Select File > Import, and browse to the projectfile containing the desired EDL file, and select it.

Use Premiere Pro’s Project Manager to move/archive your projects without breaking connections and getting offline error messages. It’s not a sexy topic, but it is important!

Use Premiere Pro’s Project Manager when you are copying or trimming (removing unused files) your project. If you move the project and the media separately you will break the link and have to reconnect them. You can run into additional problems if media isn’t reconnected properly or some files go astray. The Project Manager serves to simplify this process.

Moving Files in Premiere Pro

Here’s a typical editing scenario: You want to collect your project and media files and copy them to a new location, such as an external hard drive. This is especially useful if you’re planning on editing off-site or need to share a project with another editor.

From the Project menu select Project Manager.

Under Resulting Project select Collect Files and Copy to New Location.

Project xcloud macos. Uncheck Exclude Unused Clips since we want to move all the files.

Leave Include Preview Files (rendered effects) & Audio Conform Files checked.

Android emulator for m1 mac. Check Rename Media Files to Match Clip Names when you have renamed your clips in the Project.

Click the Browse button to choose a location to copy the files/project to. Then click OK. The media and project are then copied to the specified destination. Much more tidy than dragging files around your computer!

New Trimmed Project in Premiere Pro

When it’s time to archive your Premiere Pro project you can use the Project Manager to create a clean “trimmed version” of it. The trimmed version will remove all unused footage so that the new version only includes the media elements that were actually included in the video(s).

Since we are trimming the media we’ll want to include handles on each clip (this adds time before and after each clip in the timeline). I generally make my handles 2-3 seconds, so that I can go back and make trimming changes or add new transitions if necessary. Although trimming will take out the majority of the footage that didn’t make it in the final videos, handles are useful for giving you that little bit of “wiggle room” in case you need it later on.

Click “Calculate” to see what the size of the trimmed project/media will be.

Click “Browse” to set a destination and then click “OK”.

‘Gotchas’ with Premiere’s Project Manager

There are a few things to be aware of when trimming projects using the Premiere Pro Project Manager:

• You can’t trim Long GOP footage like H.264 or MXF. You would need to transcode this footage to another format like Pro Res to trim it using Project Manager.
• Footage in a multicam sequence will not be trimmed (because it is nested into another sequence).
• After Effects compositions using Dynamic Link will not be moved using the Project Manager. You have to manually do this.
